In the state of New York in the mailbox in front of the house of billionaire George Soros on Monday found an explosive device.

According to the New York Times, a suspicious package was discovered by one of the employees of Soros. He opened the package, and, assuming that there was an explosive device in it, carried it to a wasteland and called the police. According to the police, the summoned experts confirmed that there was indeed an explosive device in the package. He was disarmed.

“He was discovered by one of the employees of the Soros residence. Having opened the package taken from the mailbox, he saw a suspicious object, took it to a safe distance to the trees and called law enforcement officers. Following this, sappers blew up the dangerous find,” the police said.

At that moment, when the package was discovered, Soros was not at home.

According to the police, the investigation was transferred to the FBI.

As the newspaper notes, Soros has repeatedly received threats from right-wing activists and organizations.

Soros, who survived the Nazi occupation of Hungary, fled the rise of communism and later made millions on Wall Street. George Soros is known not only as a financier, but also as a philanthropist and public figure. He defends liberal democracy, against nationalism and right-wing populism, and funds a number of non-profit organizations that protect the rights of migrants and other minorities. The political right in Europe and the United States has sharply criticized Soros. In Hungary, where Soros is from, a law known as “Stop Soros” was even passed, restricting the activities of non-profit organizations.

Last year he announced that he would give the remaining wealth of about $18 billion to his main philanthropy vehicle, the Open Society Foundations.
