CIA found a WikiLeaks informer because of child porn

After several months of investigation, the American authorities managed to find a suspect whoHe could provide Wikileaks with information about cyber espionage from the CIA. The man is behind bars.

As the RBC with reference to The Washington PostThe investigation revealed that Joshua Schulte worked for the CIA and helped develop computer programs that allowed the United States to engage in cyber spying. According to investigators, he passed the secret information to the site. Wikileakswhich eventually published a series of articles under the heading Vault 7.

As the newspaper found out, Schulte was detained at the end of last year and kept in a cell in Manhattan. However, he was not directly charged with disclosing classified information, since the prosecutor’s office was not able to gather enough evidence. The reason for the detention were suspicions of the spread of child pornography.

As stated by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Southern District of New York, Matthew Laroche, as early as January, the authorities were studying the information about whether Wikileaks using technology Tor. Searches and seizure of equipment in the house of an ex-CIA officer revealed that he used this browser, but it was not possible to establish that he did this to transmit secret data.

A newspaper interlocutor from among former employees of the prosecutor's office stated that it’s unusual in itself that a suspect in such a case has been kept in jail for several months in a completely different matter. Schulte also assured that the server where pornography was stored was used from 50 to 100 people.

As noted by The Washington Post With reference to sources familiar with the case, Schulte's information is, by its significance, much more dangerous for the United States than the revelations of Edward Snowden, who is hiding in Russia. The latter told that the United States engaged in surveillance around the world using computer programs and phones, and Schulte described how it is done technically.

Schulte came to the American special services, explaining that by his desire to fulfill his patriotic duty and not to allow the repetition of the events of 11 in September of 2001. At first he worked for the National Security Agency, then he moved to the CIA. In the 2016 year, Schulte resigned from the security services, "disappointed because of the bureaucracy and incompetence of the leadership", after which he began working for a private company. Dissatisfaction with the former employee resulted in him becoming one of the first suspects in the data leakage case.
