The visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU came into force

June 11 entered into force a visa-free regime between Ukraine and the European Union, Ukrainians received the right to visit the countries of the Schengen zone without a visa for 90 days for each period of 180 days.

12 hours before this regime came into force, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko launched a symbolic timer and delivered a speech to his fellow citizens, the full text of which was published TSN.

He noted that the path of Ukraine to the abolition of tourist visas with the EU was long and difficult, but the state succeeded.

“We did this with the firm hope that we will definitely pass this difficult exam. Someone expected that we wouldn’t do this and that we wouldn’t succeed, but we firmly believed that if there was an agreement with our European partners, then our word would be kept. And finally we can say that we are now starting the countdown. Countdown to irreversible changes. And this will be the final “farewell” to the Russian empire, and the words back in the USSR we will only hear in the songs Beatles and will never return to the Soviet Union, because we are a proud and free democratic nation, returning to the family of European nations. And I’m proud that we succeeded,” Poroshenko said.

He added that with the beginning of a visa-free regime, the general development of Ukraine and the EU will begin.

“Today I would like to recall the words of the great European - German Chancellor Willy Brant: “From now on, what is a single whole will develop as one.” One whole: Europe, the European Union and our fantastic state of Ukraine,” summed up the President of Ukraine.

The head of the Ukrainian state also quoted the well-known poems of the Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov “Farewell, Unwashed Russia” in this regard.

The timer was launched at the Uzhgorod border checkpoint - together with the President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska.

Recall that the visa-free regime of Georgia with Europe instilled by virtue of 28 March. In this regard, Prime Minister Georgi Kvirikashvili, together with students and scientists with ordinary biometric passports of Georgian citizens, went on a symbolic tour of European countries, in particular - to Athens, as the oldest cultural capital of Europe, and then to the political capital of the European Union - Brussels.
