For the first time in 500 years, archaeologists have uncovered the tomb of Christ in Jerusalem

Researchers who work in the Temple of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, opened the top plate of the tomb. Writes USA Today, a slab at the site of the supposed burial of Christ was installed in the 1555 year. And since then, the crypt has not been opened. Archaeologists who discovered the tomb, found inside a lot of stone material.

Now scientists will have to study the internal surfaces of the tomb and, most importantly, the lower slab, on which, according to legend, the body of Jesus Christ was placed after the crucifixion. Researchers intend to find out what the tomb of Jesus Christ originally looked like.

It is believed that St. Helena discovered on Calvary a cross on which Christ was crucified, and then founded the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in this place. The Holy Sepulcher itself is enclosed in the ediculum, a domed chapel of yellow-pink marble. The existing chapel restored in 1809-1810, recalls Lenta.ru.
