American astronaut: Mars colonized by 2040 year
85-year-old American astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second after Neil Armstrong who visited the surface of the moon, together with the Florida Institute of Technology will prepare a plan for the colonization of Mars.
Aldrin hopes that it will be possible to establish a settlement on the planet in 25 years, in the 2039 year. In this case, the beginning of the colonization will coincide with the 70 anniversary of the landing of the Apollo 11 spacecraft on the moon. However, the astronaut acknowledges that the timing may change.
According to his concept, the colonists will be sent to Mars for ten years, and they will have the opportunity to return to Earth after this period. Aldrin believes that the moons of Mars can be used as transit points: Phobos and Deimos.
On Thursday, 27 August, the astronaut signed an agreement on the establishment of a space center at the PTI, which will be named after him. The main activity of the center is the study of lunar resources and the possibilities of using them to implement the plan for the colonization of Mars.
Aldrin landed the Apollo 11 spacecraft on the moon 21 July 1969. He stayed on the moon for a little over one and a half hours, Armstrong - about 2,5 hours.
