In Pennsylvania, a jury ruled that a urologist who removed a healthy testicle instead of a patient should pay an injured man compensation of $ 1,15 million.
Stephen Haynes suffered from chronic pain in the right testicle of the order of 15 for years before he decided to see a doctor.
He consulted a urologist, Dr. Spencer Long, in 2013. After which an operation took place to remove a patient's testicle. She was held at the J. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntington. Later it turned out that the doctor had removed the left organ, which was healthy.
Unsurprisingly, the 54-year-old man was unhappy with the failed operation and sued the surgeon.
In the postoperative documents, Long wrote: "it turned out that the left testicle and canal may have been removed instead of the right one."
As a result, the Huntington County jury sided with Haynes and awarded him a payment of $ 1,15 million, including $ 850 thousand for pain and suffering, and $ 330 thousand - punitive damages.
A lawyer for Haynes said that his client was still suffering from pain and was afraid to go for an operation after he fell victim to medical negligence.
“The doctor’s behavior during the operation indicates that he did not have the slightest idea about which testicle to remove,” said the victim’s lawyer. — Steve suffered from testicular pain for 15 years before seeing Dr. Long. He wanted to get rid of the pain. Four years later, Steve continues to suffer. The pain became stronger and more frequent.”
The verdict can be appealed.
