An American dressed as Jesus and walked from Warsaw to Kyiv with a cross on his shoulders

An American in the image of Jesus with a large cross on his shoulders walked from Warsaw to Kyiv. Known only as Jimmy from Virginia, the young man attracted a lot of attention during his march through Poland and Ukraine, reports SocPortal.

“Jimmy came to visit us in Kyiv. He is from Virginia, USA and is 33 years old. He looks like Jesus, but claims that he is far from Jesus and not a saint, he simply took up the cross and walked from Warsaw to Kyiv in 70 days,” said Peter Balog, director of the Institute of St. Thomas Aquinas.

During these 70 days of travel, Jimmy developed problems with his back, legs and general health. The only things he had were a huge cross and a tent. Jimmy says he had people help him along the way. The procession in Ukraine was complicated by a curfew. “The rules say you can’t be outside after midnight—I tried to follow that rule,” he says.

Before his hike, Jimmy worked in Poland in a kindergarten and as a lumberjack. Jimmy does not identify himself with any particular religious movement. He said that he grew up in a Baptist family, but does not identify himself with a particular direction, but simply believes in God.

Jimmy still wanted to go to Kharkov after Kyiv, but, given his state of health, he will go back: by train to Warsaw, and from there by plane to the USA.

The American wants to spend Christmas with his relatives and, perhaps, will go on some new pilgrimage again.

Why did he go

In an interview, he stated that he doesn't really have a goal. The 33-year-old claims he simply does what his heart tells him to do because it is the best way to honor God, reports OddityCentral.

“I'm really not trying to prove anything. “I’d like to be a better person,” Jimmy said during his journey. “And I think that’s the best way to do that and also glorify God.” I think that's the best reason."

The second most important reason Jimmy gave was “to give hope and love to people.” “And get better,” he added.

Throughout the journey, Jimmy refused offers to give him a ride, but happily stopped to chat and take pictures with anyone who wanted to meet him.

“This is the unique personal sacrifice of one Christian-American for Ukraine during the war. He looks like an eccentric, and a little “foolish”, but may the Lord accept this peculiar sacrifice of his! - said Peter Balogh.
