Shark scares participants in Escape from Alcatraz swim
The white shark scared the participants of the “Escape from Alcatraz” swim. A surveillance camera on one of the ferries filmed a predator in San Francisco Bay, California.
The shark decided to have lunch near the pier in front of tourists and crew members of one of the ferries. According to captain Chase Corum, who witnessed the incident, he saw a bloody seal in the water and a shark tossing around.
A specialist at the local aquarium, Stephanie Jung, said the video was important to researchers. According to her, this is the first case of a white shark attack in San Francisco Bay, which was able to be captured on video. She added that predators often swim in this place to hunt for seals and fur seals, but previously no one has been able to capture the process of hunting.
The members of The Dolphin Club are going to make the “Escape from Alcatraz” swim on October 17. 59 people who dive into the water near the site of the shark's attack on the seal confirmed their participation.
