New Jersey police are investigating an unprecedented act of vandalism, which appears to be a manifestation of anti-Semitism.

Last weekend (10-11 August), a man cut the tires of more than 50 cars parked in an orthodox Jewish community in Lakewood, New Jersey. CBS.

Waking up on Saturday morning and noticing that all four tires of his car were punctured, Yitzhak Katz realized that he was the victim of a vandal. But when the man walked a little along Marlin Street, it became obvious to him that this was not an accidental attack.

“When I went down the block, I saw that the tires were punctured only on cars near Jewish houses. It was pretty obvious,” Katz said.

CCTV cameras filmed a man in the hood who committed acts of vandalism. The video shows that he worked very quickly, breaking through four tires on one car in a matter of seconds. In total, the offender cut more than 150 tires on 56 cars.

All the victims were members of orthodox Jewish families.

Police are investigating this crime as biased.

“People were staying up until one, two, three o'clock in the morning, worrying that their cars that weren't damaged the night before would be damaged the next night,” said one of the victims, Witzie Vale.

The police believe that the suspect may be associated with similar crimes committed earlier. Just last week, about a dozen tires were cut near one of the junctions on Marlin Street. Then all the injured cars also belonged to Jewish families.

“He didn’t even get anything out of it. All he did was simply damage someone else's property. It's one thing if he stole something, because that means he got something. But this... this is just beyond comprehension,” Katz said.

As of Sunday evening, most of the community still has not recovered from what happened, the victims were waiting for mechanics to repair the cars. They also work with the police, collecting video from surveillance cameras to establish a clearer time frame for the crime to further identify the suspect.

The community offers a reward of $ 2000 to anyone who can help identify the suspect.
