Sarcophagus in Chernobyl on the verge of collapse: will tourists be allowed there
The sarcophagus in Chernobyl is on the verge of collapse, it can fail under its own weight. Writes about it with the BBC.
Experts say that there is a very high probability that the Chernobyl sarcophagus, which protects the environment from the negative effects of radiation, could soon fall apart.
A concrete sarcophagus was built around the fourth reactor in 1986. Around him recently installed a new steel confinement. If the sarcophagus is carefully removed, confinement will prevent the discharge of radiation into the environment.

The Ukrainian company SSE Chernobyl NPP, which is engaged in a power plant, has signed a new contract for $ 78 million to fix the problem. The sarcophagus will be dismantled before the 2023 year. After that, there will be work on the treatment of radioactive waste, which will last until 2065 year.
Workers must remove the radioactive dust and the rest of the mixture from sand, lead and boron, which extinguished the burning reactor.
Despite this, the Chernobyl zone will soon become the official destination for tourism.
