Yisroel Avrokh arrived in the United States in the 1960s, surviving the Nazi death camps during the Second World War. For decades he lived in Boro Park and Williamsburg.
In February 2019, the rabbi was hospitalized at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he died a month later with a little.
During the funeral, two NYPD officers suffered minor injuries in the crowd. One of them was hit by a car and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries (possibly a broken ankle). A second officer was injured due to a drone - he was hit in the head by the drone.

The drone operator, 36-year-old Yechiel Rosenfeld, was charged with reckless endangerment for losing control of the device. The man told police he tried to land the drone on the roof, but it fell on people instead. The injury to the police officer also does not pose a serious threat.
