60 percent of women in Silicon Valley have been sexually harassed
More than 60% of women who work in Silicon Valley have experienced unwanted sexual advances. This is stated in a new study, “Elephant in the Valley,” the results of which were published on Monday, January 11.
Approximately two thirds of the respondents stated that they had been victimized by their superiors.
The survey, called “The Elephant in the Valley,” specifically targeted female employees of large IT companies, one of them a participant in the trial of Reddit interim CEO Ellen Pao, who filed a lawsuit against Kleiner Perkins for discrimination against women.
“We realized that while many women face similar challenges, most men are simply shocked and unaware of the challenges facing women in the workplace,” wroteand Ellen Pao.
220 women participated in the survey. According to the survey, 90% were victims or watched for sexist behavior in Silicon Valley companies; 87% was faced with derogatory statements from employees, and 39% felt exhausted from work.
The majority of women surveyed are 40 years old and older, 75% have children.
