18-year-old Marina Lonina from Ohio showed Periscope girlfriend rape on the social network

Marina Lonina from Ohio is arrested after a Periscope social network showed the rape of her 17-year-old girlfriend to a young man. 29-year-old Raymond Gates, accused of rape, is also detained. The girl claims that she tried to stop Gates with her broadcast.

Periscope is a mobile video streaming application owned by Twitter, and everything that happens is broadcast by users of the social network in real time.

One of the subscribers of Lonina’s account in another state saw the broadcast and went to the police. How many people managed to watch the video is unknown.

Marina Lonina faces the same charges as Raymond Gates - kidnapping a minor, rape, unlawful acts of a sexual nature and complicity in committing acts of a sexual nature with a minor.

“I have never experienced a sexual assault broadcast in real time before,” said Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien.

According to lawyer Lonina, she met with a friend from her school in the vicinity of Columbus, who met Gates the day before the incident at the mall.

Gates invited the girls to meet the next day, and 27 February of this year, they gathered in his apartment in Columbus. The lawyer also mentions a bottle of vodka, which Gates bought for the girls.

“You have to take into account that she [Lonina] is a schoolgirl, and she was taken advantage of, like her friend,” Sam Shamansky said.

According to the investigators, all the participants in the orgy were intoxicated.

Marina Lonina, who denied the allegations against her, told the police that she had filmed what was happening in order to fix the fact of the crime. The lawyer Shamanski added that she made attempts to stop the violence, but did not specify information about the actions of the Trust.

Prosecutor Ron O'Brien, in turn, suggested that the girl was captivated by the process and the positive reaction of users in the form of “likes.”
