A Nebraska man swam 61 km in a pumpkin boat and set a world record
A Nebraska resident set a new Guinness World Record by driving inside a hollowed-out gourd 38 miles (61 km) down the Missouri River. Writes about it New York Post.
Dwayne Hansen, 60, was greeted by relatives and fans after he exited his orange "ship" called "Big Bertha".
Hansen said the trip was fraught with danger, as it was repeatedly flooded with water as boats passed nearby.

“The boats are making waves and you have to stop, just hold on and sail with those waves,” he told the publication.
Hansen first set his sights on the record after he ran into the previous record holder at a vegetable growing workshop in Oregon.
A master gardener grew an 846-pound (384 kg) giant pumpkin in his own garden specifically to break the 25,5-mile (41 km) record set in 2018.
“I am so proud of my father,” his daughter Morgan Buchholz said. “He always said you can do whatever you want.”

His sister, Yvonne Hansen, flew in from San Diego, California to help prepare the paperwork needed for the swim to qualify for the Guinness Book of Records.
“It all went very quickly,” she said.
A friend manned the boat with Hansen in case of any accidents. The swim, which began in Bellevue, Washington and ended in Nebraska City, Nebraska, took a total of 11 hours.
