During Trump’s presidency, the number of refugees has halved
The number of refugees who came to the United States in the first three months of the Donald Trump presidency has almost halved compared with the last months of Barack Obama’s presidency. This is evidenced by statistics published by the Department of National Security based on information provided by the State Department.
For example, in the last three months of the Obama presidency, 25 000 refugees have entered the United States. And in the first 3 months of the Trump presidency, this figure was reduced to 13 000 people. People most often flee from 5 countries: Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Myanmar.
A federal court has blocked Trump's presidential decrees prohibiting immigrants from Muslim countries, such as Syria, Somalia and Iraq, from entering the United States.
With his presidential decree, Obama ruled that 110 000 refugees could come to the US. Trump seeks to reduce this figure to 50 000 people. But the court may oppose this decision.
Today, the United States has the lowest refugee quota among all host countries in the world. Countries that adjoin such countries of conflict as Syria have accepted more than a million refugees. Many people were forced to leave their countries because of violence and poverty. The number of refugees in the world is currently higher than during World War II.
