For the first time in history, more Americans use iPhones than Android smartphones

For the first time ever, more U.S. smartphone users are using iPhones instead of Androids, according to new data from Counterpoint Research. The edition told in more detail Business Insider.

This includes more than just quarterly smartphone shipments, which can rise and fall randomly. Counterpoint estimated that Apple held 48% of the smartphone shipment market in the second quarter. 30% were Samsung smartphones with the Google operating system, and the rest - other brands.

The benchmark includes an “active installed base,” specifically smartphone users who bought used iPhones, as well as users with devices older than a year old.

It's a milestone for the smartphone giant, which has increasingly dominated the US market since its iPhone debut in 2007, despite rivals such as Blackberry and Nokia taking user share at some point.

Apple sees its numbers growing outside of the US as well. The company captured 57% of the global premium smartphone market in the second quarter ended June, according to Counterpoint. The rest was made by Samsung with the Google operating system and other brands.

iPhone sales helped the company reach a market capitalization of $2 trillion in August 2020, making it the first U.S.-listed company to reach that milestone. The company is more focused on keeping users connected to Apple's ecosystem of devices and services.

And if you want to add to the list of Apple users, then next week the company is preparing for its annual fall presentation of new products, during which it announces new products and features. Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 14 line of smartphones, which will feature larger screens and faster processors.

The company is also expected to release its Apple Watch Series 8 and rumored Apple Watch Pro. Apple will be live streaming the event on September 7th.

The star of this year's conference will almost certainly be the iPhone 14. As in previous years, Apple will likely announce four different versions of the new iPhone: potentially iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Business Insider.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

The standard iPhone 14 likely won't get many updates this year. It will likely still have a screen size of 6,1 inches and still use the same (though still fast) A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13. It will most likely only have two cameras on the back, but analysts believe that the front selfie camera will undergo some improvements.

Apple is expected to introduce the larger iPhone 14, which will have nearly the same specs but with a larger 6,7-inch screen. According to unconfirmed reports, Apple plans to call it the iPhone 14 Plus. For the first time, Apple is offering a "budget" variant with a larger screen.

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max

There are real changes in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. And the biggest of these potential changes is at the top of the screens.

The large black notch at the top of the iPhone screen, which houses the selfie camera and speaker, will reportedly disappear. Apple is expected to replace the notch with a "wide pill-shaped notch", meaning the camera and speaker will simply sit on the screen without any black space around them.

Both Pro and Pro Max are expected to have newer internal chips. The A16 Bionic chips are more powerful than their A15 predecessors, making them the fastest iPhones ever.

Apple Watch Series 8

Along with the iPhone, there are likely to be several new Apple Watches as well.

The most likely one is the Apple Watch Series 8. The latest in a long line of Apple fitness bracelets, the Series 8 is expected to feature an upgraded S8 internal chip. This will allow the watch to work faster, and its biometric functions - tracking heart rate, blood oxygen levels, etc. - will become more accurate. It may come with a temperature sensor that will let you know if you have a fever.

The new version of the Apple Watch SE could replace the Series 3 as a budget watch option. It will most likely be equipped with the same S8 chip as the Series 8, but it is not yet known if it will add blood oxygen measurement functions.

The biggest question is whether the rumors about the debut of the Apple Watch Pro, a new model designed for athletes, will be confirmed.

Potential long-awaited update for AirPods Pro

It's been almost three years since Apple released the high-end AirPods Pro, and we haven't heard from them about a new version since.

Not some experts believe that Apple will introduce AirPods Pro 2 this year.
