Thousand tons of ham and pepperoni are recalled in the United States: they are infected with listeria

The total volume of ham and pepperoni recalls nationwide was 1000 tonnes of meat due to potential Listeria infestations, reports TrueJersey.

On December 5, Michigan-based meat supplier Alexander & Hornung recalled 105 tons of cooked ham and pepperoni products due to Listeria contamination found in food samples.

Six days later, the company expanded the recall to include 900 tons of cooked meat that could have been contaminated.

The recall now lists up to 27 meats, including pepperoni sticks, boneless ham, helix ham, and ham steak.

All recalled products have a serial number “EST. M10125 ″ inside USDA check mark.

The recalled products had different “before” dates and were sold under the following brand names:

• Alexander & Hornung;
• Amish Valley;
• Big Y;
• Butcher Boy;
• five star;
• food club;
• Garrett Valley Farms;
• Lancaster;
• Niman Ranch;
• open nature;
• Wellshire Wood.

The contaminated products were shipped to retailers across the country.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the USDA urges consumers not to eat affected foods, but instead throw or return them.
