On May 2, three-year-old Emoor Shavkator, the son of immigrants from Uzbekistan, was shot to death at a pedestrian crossing by a van intended for the transport of sweets. The child accidentally rolled onto the road on a scooter. The tragedy occurred in Brooklyn, in front of the boy's 25-year-old mother. The driver is charged.

The child overtook his mother by riding a scooter at a pedestrian crossing on Benson Avenue in Bay Street, 25, and found himself under the wheels of a van with Skittles and Starburst signs on the body, writes AMNY. At that moment, the van turned right toward Benson Avenue.

Emura was taken to Coney Island hospital with a head injury and declared dead on arrival. According to police, the boy with his parents lived a few blocks from the place where he was hit by a car. The scooter the child was riding on was not electric, the officer added.

The van driver, 61-year-old Johnny González, remained at the scene. He is accused of not showing due caution when approaching a pedestrian crossing and did not give way to a pedestrian.

City council member Marc Treyger said he had called for measures to reduce traffic at this intersection for many years.

“We're still waiting for further details from the station, but we've known for years that drivers regularly ignore this stop sign,” he said. “There is a moral imperative to improve street safety that is unfortunately not reflected in the data collected during traffic studies.”

According to ABC7, the boy's mother was standing on the sidewalk with a baby in a stroller when Emoore rolled onto the roadway.

Witnesses say that distraught 25-year-old Nigora Habibova tried to pull her son out from under the car, where he was stuck as a result of the incident, and threw her fists at the driver. When she realized that the child could not be saved, according to eyewitnesses, the woman began to beat her hands on the concrete and scream terribly.

“It was an agonizing cry with a scream, the cry of a person to whom something terrible had happened,” said one of the witnesses. “The poor woman experienced more agony and suffering than I have ever seen or heard in my life.”

It is known that the pedestrian crossing was not adjustable.

According to the Uzbek portal upl.uz, the family of the deceased baby moved to New York from Uzbekistan, winning a green card. Currently under investigation.
