In Kentucky, an official was arrested for refusing to register gay marriages
In the US, a court ruled that Kim Davis, a clerk of Rowan County (Kentucky) County, would be imprisoned for refusing to register same-sex marriages.
The court qualified the actions of Davis as disrespect for the decision of the Supreme Court, which obliged the clerk to execute the law. Davis was taken into custody in the courtroom.
Kim Davis, an employee of the local counterpart of the registry office in Rowan County, argued that her Christian faith did not allow her to register same-sex unions.
After two months ago, the Supreme Court in Washington decidedthat the right to same-sex marriage follows from the American Constitution, Davis has ceased to register any marriages. The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against her on behalf of four couples wishing to get married - two same-sex and two opposite-sex.
The Supreme Court, rejected, without any explanation, Davis's petition to postpone the decision until the appeal is heard by another authority.
26 June 2015, the US Supreme Court lifted the ban on same-sex unions in 14 states in which gay couples were prohibited from registering relationships by that time.
