In 2018, the US plans to take a record low number of refugees
The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to accept no more than 2018 thousands of refugees in 45 year. About this newspaper writes Wall Street Journal.
Donald Trump, after assuming the office of President of the United States, set the maximum limit on the admission of refugees in the 2017 fiscal year (started in October 2016) to no more than 50 thousand people. However, some of the advisers to the head of state insisted that the number of internally displaced persons, whom the United States will receive in the next fiscal year (October 1 begins), should be even smaller.
For example, Trump's political adviser Stephen Miller believes that a country should take no more than 15 thousands of refugees a year. In turn, the Ministry of Homeland Security insisted on numbers in the 40 thousands area. The publication writes that in the end, the State Department made a recommendation to establish the appropriate quota at the level of 45 thousand people.
Recall that in the last year of the previous President Barack Obama’s rule, the leader promised that the United States in the 2017 fiscal year will receive on its territory at least 110 thousands of refugees. Note that since 1980, the maximum quota for receiving IDPs by the United States has never dropped below 67 thousands of people a year.
