Senator Al Franken resigns due to sexual harassment charges

Senator Al Franken said he will resign "in the coming weeks" amid a growing scandal over sexual harassment allegations. Franken is the second Democrat this week to announce his intention to resign over allegations of inappropriate behavior, writes "Voice of America«.
More 20 Democratic senators called Franken to leave the post after reports appeared in the media that a former employee of Congress complained about him for trying to kiss her violently in 2006.
Charges against franken for the first time sounded Last month, when Los Angeles-based journalist and former model Leann Tuiden stated that he tried to forcefully kiss her while preparing for a charity concert for American servicemen in the Middle East on 2006. Later, she also said that Franken grabbed her breasts when she fell asleep on board the aircraft and published a photo in confirmation.
This happened 2 a year before Franken was first elected to the Senate, but since then several other women have said that he allowed himself inappropriate touches when they took pictures with him at various events.
On Tuesday, the oldest member of the House of Representatives, a Democrat from Michigan, John Conyers, also decided to leave his post because of allegations of harassment. The leaders of both parties in the House of Representatives called on him to resign after several former employees accused him of sexual harassment for several years.
Scandals around sexual harassment rage in the US for several weeks now. Dozens of influential men from the world of politics, business, Hollywood and the media have lost their jobs due to women's stories about harassment on their part.
