Swarm of 20 000 bees attacked Times Square

The bees were literally swarming around the counter, located a block south of Times Square. The attack occurred around one in the afternoon, writes Inosmi.

Thousands of people watched a live Reuters broadcast — a shopping cart standing next to the headquarters of a news agency in New York — and then, when a policeman was called in to remove the bees with a vacuum cleaner, they began to follow on Twitter. The street section at the corner of 42 and 7 Avenue was closed for the duration of this delicate procedure.

Officers from the New York Police Department guarded the area, some with more desire than others. At this time, one of their colleagues put on a beekeeper's hat and walked over to the stall.

The bees were a tight ball about the size of a square meter. A mustache police officer, dressed in a white jacket and thick gloves, began collecting bees, which took about 40 minutes. The procedure was watched by Internet users. At about 3 hours of the day, the officer removed most of the bees from his counter umbrella. When asked whether it was safe to stay in the area, the policeman pointed to his colleague and said: "He collects them, so there will be no more problems."

Andrew Cote, who runs the New York Beekeepers Association, answered the call from the New York police and watched the bees be collected. Vacuuming - this was a specially adapted vacuum cleaner - a common phenomenon, said Kote. He calculated that there were 20 thousands of bees on an umbrella, and added: "You must count the number of legs and divide by six to be sure of their number." Speaking about the "motivation" of bees, Kote said that, apparently, they wanted a hot dog.

Later in the conversation, Kote explained that he was joking about the bees' addiction to hotdogs, and that this swarm probably flew out of a poorly managed hive. He said that there are several hives in a block from the scene. By 3.15, the police reopened the street, although several bees were still at the scene. Kote scolded the Guardian correspondent for being crouched when bees flew by. “You will not die,” said Kote. - Unless you're anaphylactic (Allergy - Ed.)».
