Flight from Florida made an emergency landing with a broken window

The Icelandair flight, departing from Orlando, Fla., Was forced to make an emergency landing in Canada after a crack was discovered on one of the aircraft's portholes.

Flight 688 departed from Orlando International Airport on Friday evening, heading for Reykjavik, Iceland. The plane was “en route over Canada,” when pilots noticed a crack in one of the cockpit windows, according to a Twitter statement citing USA Today.

“Following standard procedures, they were diverted to the nearby airport in Bagotville, Canada,” the statement said.

According to Flight Aware, the plane very quickly declined during an emergency landing, dropping more than 26 thousand feet (8 kilometers) in just 10 minutes.

Icelandair notes that there were 155 passengers and 7 crew members aboard. All of them were “delivered to a hotel for rest, another plane will pick them up later.”

The airline reported that those passengers for whom Reykjavik was supposed to be an intermediate point of travel, received tickets for the following flights.

The photographs of the aircraft show that the use of the word “crack” by Icelandair was a rather mild description for a broken cockpit window.
