Wikipedia editor wanted to collaborate with Russian authorities

The community of the Russian-speaking Wikipedia has blocked the account of the user Samal, who organized a meeting with representatives of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications (Roskomnadzor). The corresponding message was posted on the community Twitter account.

User Samal, пишет TJournal, has repeatedly advocated that Wikipedia should change its behavior and provide information in such a way as to avoid blocking. This point of view in the Wikipedia community had both supporters and opponents.

In November 2015 Roskomnadzor объявилthat prohibited information was found in several Wikipedia articles. After that, Samal said that he had made an appointment with representatives of Roskomnadzor.

The meeting took place on November 26, however, members of the non-profit partnership Wikimedia. Ru ”, which usually voiced the position of the Russian-speaking community of Wikipedia, were not admitted to it.

Wikipedia has repeatedly entered into polemics with Roskomnadzor over content. So, in August 2015, the site was not for long blocked at the request of the court, which declared the article about Charas prohibited. It was subsequently canceled.
