One step before the tragedy: a passenger attempted to open the door of an airplane flying to New York in the air
A passenger aboard the Delta flight attempted to open the doors of the aircraft during the flight. The pilot had to declare an emergency. The plane landed safely at New York’s La Guardia airport, writes NBC New York.
An emotionally agitated woman reportedly attempted to open the “front service door” during the Delta 5935 flight from Raleigh, North Carolina to La Guardia, New York.
“We are aware of the incident and are looking into it. I can say that the flight landed without any problems,” said a Republic Airways representative.
One of the passengers of the flight wrote on Twitter that the woman “screamed that she needed to open the door and die.” She noted that the passenger's father was flying with her and dragged her from the door.
“I wasn’t scared because I knew the door couldn’t be opened, but the screams were terrible. She was sitting behind us, so when she was taken to her seat, it was terrible to watch her suicidal suffering,” Stacey Herbert wrote on Twitter.
She also said that when the plane landed, a dozen law enforcement and ambulance vehicles were waiting for him.
