Chicago bakery loses 800 employees due to immigration raid
Swiss producer of hamburger buns for a corporation McDonald's stated that he is trying to reopen the Chicago bakery after having lost a third of his workers as a result of the immigration raid and the arrest of 800 immigrants without sufficient documentation, writes about this Chicago Tribune.
The company had to find a replacement for about 35% workers in Cloverhill Bakerywhich produces bakery products for fast food chains and supermarkets in Chicago.
“This is [the hiring process - Ed. ForumDaily] is happening very slowly because it's like building a new plant and a new workforce,” Chief Executive Officer Kevin Tonald said by phone.
The raid in Cloverhill was one of the biggest headaches for an American company headquartered in Zurrich. The chief executive said the company is facing retention problems in the United States and pressure to raise salaries.
The company did not indicate when the raid took place, but said that because of it it suffered $ 16,3 million losses in June and July of the year 2017.
The company also explained that it could not check the availability of workers' documents, since this was handled by the recruitment agency, as interim CFO David Wilkinson said in September. He also added that the council was unaware of the extent of the risk that existed to the business.
