Minnesota couple banned from Walmart stores due to swastika masks

A man and a woman from Minnesota who came to a Walmart store in Minnesota wearing masks with images of a swastika were caught on video and were banned from entering the chain's stores for at least a year, writes USA Today.

The video, posted by Rafaela Mueller on Facebook, shows the couple at Walmart in Marshall, Minnesota, wearing red front covers with a swastika.

“You can’t be an American and wear this mask,” someone says off-screen. “We had a real war over this.”

The masked woman is heard responding: “If you vote for Biden, you will be in Nazi Germany. This is how it will be. "

Marshall Police Captain Jeff Wenker told the Associated Press that the couple had been given trespassing notices, but the police did not issue fines or arrest them. Walmart said that notifications of a ban on entry for this pair are valid for at least a year and apply to all stores in the chain.

Müller told media that she felt "sick" at the sight of the couple.

“I was speechless and shocked. I heard that (similar things) happen in other places, but I never thought I would see something like this,” the witness said.

Walmart officials called the incident "unacceptable."

“We are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable shopping experience for all of our customers and will not tolerate discrimination or harassment in any aspect of our business,” Walmart said. “We ask everyone to wear a face covering when entering stores for your safety and the safety of others, and unfortunately, some people have taken this pandemic as an opportunity to create an unsettling situation for customers and associates in our store.”

On Saturday, July 25, Minnesota enacted a regulation requiring face covers or face masks to be worn indoors. At Walmart, this rule has been in effect for almost a week.

Gov. Tim Waltz tweeted a link to a news report about the Walmart incident, saying the incident was "shameful, period."

“Thank you to the witnesses who stood up to this unacceptable hate behavior,” he added.

The names of the man and woman are not named, but the local media reported that the man is 59 years old and the woman is 64 years old.
