The hunter was mistaken for a coyote and shot by mistake.
In North Carolina, a hunter who used a whistle to lure animals was fatally injured by a man who mistakenly accepted the sounds of a hunter's whistle for the shouts of the coyotes who were wandering around his house.
Michael Marsh’s 26-year-old was killed Monday in a wooded area in Taylorsville, about 60 miles (96 km) northwest of Charlotte.
Marsh served as pastor in the Russell Gap Baptist Church. He received several bullets from an AR-15 rifle of a man who told the police that he heard shouts from coyotes nearby and was sure that the animals had caught something near a tree.
The man, whose identity has not yet been uncovered, since he has not yet been charged, said that he twice shot a brown-gray spot. Realizing that he shot the hunter, not the animal, the man called the police.
Marsha was taken to the nearest hospital, but the injury was incompatible with life. He has wife Katie and two children, Brian and Isaac.
Officials work with prosecutors to determine whether any charges will be brought against the gunman. Reportedly, members of the wildlife investigation commission will also assist in the investigation.
