New York postmen convicted of stealing money and destroying cards

The case of Daniel Darby’s 25-year-old will be tried in federal court in Brooklyn. He was accused of having thrown hundreds of postcards and bags in the trash can near the apartment building. A dishonest employee is accused of unlawfully delaying correspondence and destroying mail. At the same time, another postman is being tried in Brooklyn who has stolen about 50 gift cards from envelopes and 100 thousand dollars.

James Hayden has already admitted that he opened the envelopes in which he believed there were gift cards, and then threw away the accompanying greeting cards. His illegal business collapsed when a woman from Florida filed a complaint with the postal company, stating that the hundred-dollar Visa gift cards that she sent to her son did not reach the addressee.

The sender indicated the serial numbers of the gift cards, and this made it possible to identify Hayden. He got on the recording of surveillance cameras in the store when he used one of the stolen cards. In this case, the man was dressed in the uniform of the postman. Hayden also used a stolen Amazon gift card to order sweets to his home in Brooklyn.

Upon arrest, the postman found a wallet full of gift cards. He was accused of stealing correspondence.

Both postal employees face up to five years in prison and a fine of 250 thousand dollars. Darby was released on bail of 50 thousand dollars, bail for Hayden is defined in 75 thousand dollars. The defendants and their lawyers declined to comment.
