Putin's New Year's revelations about his childhood and place in history

Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the anniversary edition of the Vremya program, which celebrated its 1th anniversary on January 2018, 50.

During the program, he spoke about his childhood, and also shared his thoughts about his place in history, he writes TASS.

About childhood

Putin recalled that 50 years ago his family could afford to buy a TV set and watch hockey games with the participation of the USSR national team as a whole.

“We didn’t live well, but we had a TV. Both for us and for our neighbors. My parents, who lived from paycheck to paycheck, and often borrowed until paycheck, could still afford to buy a TV,” Putin said, adding that the family rarely managed to get together to watch TV.

When asked what news from 50 years ago he remembered most, the president replied that it was news about one of the bright events of the late 1960s and early 1970s - “the appearance in our skies of the supersonic civil aircraft Tu-144 "

“It seemed, well, actually and still seems like some kind of fantasy. And then, even more so, it was something unimaginable,” explained Putin, who also admitted that he remembered bright sporting events.

The head of Russia admitted that he was already accustomed to the attention of journalists, which began long before he took the presidency, but does not like to appear in front of television cameras, writes TASS.

Putin did not specify when he first appeared on television news, but recalled that “while still working in St. Petersburg, he began giving interviews, began meeting with journalists, and Shadkhan Igor even filmed something like a small film there at one time.”

Then he began to appear in the news when he arrived in Moscow and began working in the Presidential Administration in the Control Department, and then became director of the Federal Security Service.

“On some current specific issues, some information came from me, but I didn’t really like it at all. And I can’t say that I love him very much now,” Putin admitted.

At the same time, he clarified that the presence of cameras does not bother him, he just always wanted to be a less public person.

“It’s not a matter of what was stressful or not. The fact is that this was not a part of my life until that time. On the contrary... I still tried to be a little bit of a non-public person,” the head of state explained.

He also admitted that he has a negative attitude towards make-up, which is necessary for working in the frame.

“As for cameras in general, working with a camera, for me it was always disgusting. No, this is too much. But it was unpleasant, you know what? What comes naturally to you. This is all makeup and so on. This is precisely what has always caused and still causes me some kind of internal protest and rejection. I don’t like this,” the president noted.

According to him, despite the constant publicity, he did not have to give up any habits.

“My life and work are now really in the public eye, but even in my previous life I always tried to act as if I was constantly being watched. So this is strange, but this is how it turned out. Maybe because of my previous profession. But to say that I had to radically change something, perhaps not,” Putin said.

About the place in history

Putin stated that he did not even think about his place in history, writes TASS.

“I don’t think about it at all, because if you start to think about it, sorry for the bad manners, I’m going to swell my gills... You just have to work hard,” the president said.

According to him, he has practically no free time to dive into such reflections, and if it appears, he devotes him to reading historical books in order to study the steps and decisions of historical persons.

“I love reading history. Since I am in the capacity in which I am now, I always want to understand how this or that leader, the first leader, of course, thought when making a decision in a specific situation, what he wanted to get and what happened. I caught myself thinking that from this point of view I evaluate the history and events of past years or past centuries, I love it, I love it very much,” Putin said.
