Mexico stopped a few hundred illegal migrants who wanted to get into the US
Police also detained a 10 man on suspicion of smuggling migrants.
Mexican police officers stopped 239 illegal migrants in the state of Veracruz in the east of the country who intended to get into the United States. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Public Security.
“Officers observed a suspicious caravan consisting of a truck and four pickups and immediately ordered it to stop for a search,” the document states. “In this way, 239 migrants were rescued, including minors, of which 221 were from Guatemala, 12 from Honduras, four from El Salvador and two from Ecuador.” In addition, authorities detained 10 people on suspicion of illegally transporting migrants. The foreigners were handed over to representatives of the migration service.
According to human rights organizations, every year about 400 thousand inhabitants of poor Central American countries are trying to get to the United States through Mexico. Often they become victims of gangs or traffickers.
Recall that hundreds of migrants from the new caravan who has just reached the US border may will have to wait in Mexico for several months, because the US border agents in a tiny Texan town where these immigrants want to cross the border can now process the documents for asylum to less than 20 migrants per day.
