Mother of a Russian convict in Ukraine asked Trump for help
The mother of Viktor Ageyev, a Russian prisoner in Ukraine, Svetlana Ageeva asked Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as US President Donald Trump and leaders of the countries of the Norman Four, Germany and France, to help speed up negotiations on the exchange of prisoners between Moscow and Kiev.
She wrote down her appeals in English and Russian and sent it to the editors “Novaya GazetaWith a request for publication.
In January 2018, a Ukrainian court sentenced 22-year-old Viktor Ageev to 10 years in prison on charges of terrorist activities. A Russian citizen was detained by Ukrainian troops near the village of Zhelobok in the Lugansk region in June 2017. At the trial, the Russian stated that he served in the “LPR” as a volunteer.
Svetlana teaches English at school, so she was able to easily write an appeal to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emanuel Macron and Donald Trump in English.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Madame Merkel, Mr. Macron and Mr. Trump!
My name is Svetlana Ageeva. Victor Ageev is my son. And I ask for your help to find a way to free my son.
Recently, I had hope for a positive outcome. At the end of 2017, there was an exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict in the Donbas, more than 300 people returned home. But then Victor was not traded.
My son has already been detained and has been in the pre-trial center in Starobelsk since June 2017. 24 January 2018 year trial ended. Victor was sentenced to 10 years in prison. This is a severe punishment. Victor is all 22 of the year. He is not strong in politics. From the beginning of the war in the Donbass he began to follow the news, and as a result he decided that he should answer the call and go to help the people of Donbass.
Ladies and gentlemen, I appeal to all of you. I ask you to help my son! Let's find a way to speed up the prisoner exchange process.
As I know, the second round of exchange is being prepared; this may happen in the near future.
Let everyone return home. Ukrainian mothers are waiting for their sons: Oleg Sentsov, Stas Klykh, Pavel Grib and many others, and I’m waiting for Victor,” the woman’s appeal says.
She wrote the same letter in Russian, addressing Vladimir Putin.
