Linguists believe that by 2066, the [th] sound will completely disappear in English due to the fact that so many immigrants cannot pronounce interdental consonants - a term for the sound that is created by the blow of air from the tongue through the upper teeth.
According to experts from the University of York, over the next few 10 years, immigration will radically change the language.
The sound [th] - it is also called the deaf dental fricative consonant - is likely to be replaced by the sounds [f], [d] or [v], and then the word mother will be pronounced as [muvver], and the word thick as [fick].
Dominic Watt, an expert and sociolinguist at the University of York, said: "Given London's status as the most linguistically influential city in the English-speaking world, we can expect significant language changes by the middle of this century."
“Major changes in the way we speak over the next 50 years will include simplification of the phonetic composition of words, they are likely to become shorter.
"By looking at how English has changed over the past 50 years, we can identify patterns that will repeat themselves."
“Languages also change when they come into contact with each other. English has borrowed thousands of words from other languages: mainly from French, Latin and Greek, but there are borrowed words from dozens of other languages. "
