US Jews raise money to help earthquake victims in Morocco
Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) established an emergency fund to raise funds to help victims of the earthquake in Morocco. Representatives from the JDC (American Jewish Joint Distribution Center) and the Jewish Agency for Israel, JFNA partner organizations, immediately flew to Morocco to assess the situation on the ground and coordinate fundraising efforts.
The donations collected will go towards distributing emergency supplies including drinking water, food, hygiene items, clothing and blankets, delivering equipment to damaged medical facilities, and helping members of Marrakesh's 120-member Jewish community.
Jewish Federations have unique experience in responding to global crises and providing assistance to affected Jewish communities and representatives of other faiths in disaster zones. JFNA's emergency funds have helped thousands of victims of wildfires in California and Hawaii, tsunamis in Asia, hurricanes and floods in the Gulf, and tornadoes in the US Midwest.
Chairman of the Board Jewish Federation of North America Julie Platt said: “Our prayers and hearts are with the victims of this terrible earthquake. Guided by our Jewish values, we strive to lend a helping hand to all those in need.”
