Nemtsov's daughter will spend the award "Solidarity" to support Ukraine
The daughter of Russian oppositionist Boris Nemtsov, who was killed in February, Zhanna, said that she would donate seven hundred thousand euros to charity and support of independent journalism in the Eastern Partnership countries.
On Tuesday, Nemcova received the Lech Walesa Solidarity Prize, which is awarded by the Polish government for outstanding work promoting and defending democracy and civil liberties.
“I will send the first part of the award - 250 thousand euros - to the Boris Nemtsov Foundation, 50 thousand euros - for an educational tour in Poland and 700 thousand euros - for charity and support for independent journalism in the Eastern Partnership countries,” Nemtsova said in an interview with Deutsche Welle .
“Charity projects will be predominantly funded in Ukraine, which is currently suffering from a brutal war,” Nemtsova told Radio Poland.
The prize consists of three parts: 250 thousand euros are intended for the laureate himself, 700 thousand euros will be spent on programs that the laureate will determine, and 50 thousand euros - on the winner’s trips or persons indicated by him to Poland.
Last year, the leader of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Dzhemilev, won the Solidarity Prize.
