In January, a unique lunar eclipse will occur in the USA: how to look
20 January 2019, a total lunar eclipse will be visible from the United States, and it will coincide with the bloody moon and superlune.
From the late evening of January 20 and the first few hours of January 21 this phenomenon can be observed from all over the United States, writes USA Today.
After this, the next total lunar eclipse, visible from the US, will be 26 on May 2021. As a rule, two lunar eclipses occur every year, and total lunar eclipses occur on average once every two years. Usually such phenomena are seen by residents of half the Earth.
The January eclipse will not be noticeable to the inhabitants of Asia, Australia, India and many Pacific islands.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely enters the Earth's shadow. A supermoon is the time of the month when the Moon comes closest to the Earth, causing its disk to appear larger than usual. It will also be the first full moon next year.
The eclipse will begin in 21: 36 EST on January 20, it is at this moment that the Moon begins to set in the shadow of the Earth.
In 22: 33, a partial eclipse can be observed, and with 23: 41 a full eclipse begins, the maximum of which falls on 00: 12 on January 21.
During the eclipse, the moon will be a "reddish-copper color," hence the name "blood moon." The total eclipse will end at 00:43.
In order to see the eclipse, you don't need any special equipment, just go outside and try to get away from any street lights. It is best to do this between 23:40 pm and 00:43 - then the red color of the Moon will be most noticeable.
