One hour of military operations in Afghanistan costs the United States, on average, 4 million dollars.

These data were published on the website of the National Priorities Project - a non-governmental organization that studies the American budget.

According to researchers, between 2001 and 2015 fiscal year (ending September 30), total US spending on military operations will be 1,64 trillion dollars.

Of this, $715 billion will be spent on the military operation in Afghanistan, $819 million on the war in Iraq, and only $6 billion on the fight against the Islamic State terrorist group.

Over the period from 2001 to 2011, US military spending, adjusted for inflation, increased by 50%. For comparison, the cost of transport and education in the country for the same period increased only by 13,5 percent.

Now in Afghanistan there is a ten-thousandth contingent of American troops and another three thousand soldiers from NATO countries. The maintenance of one soldier in Afghanistan costs the USA about 1 million dollars a year.

The Pentagon plans to reduce its contingent in Afghanistan to five thousand troops in 2015, and by the end of 2016, all foreign units will be completely withdrawn from the country.
