In Illinois, a policeman shot and killed an 95-year veteran of World War II
Illinois was acquitted of a policeman who shot and killed a 95-year-old World War II veteran who threatened him with a cane and a spoon for shoes, reports The Guardian.
The incident occurred in July 2013. Police officer Craig Taylor and his colleagues were summoned to a nursing home due to the fact that John Ren, 95-year-old, refused to take medicine, and he also hit the institution's employee with a cane.
Arriving on call, the police failed to calm the veteran of the Second World War, who, while in the room, threatened them with a cane, a spoon for shoes and a knife. As a result, the police stormed the room using a stun gun, police shield and a shotgun 12-caliber. After the veteran’s refusal to throw the “weapon”, Taylor shot a shotgun at him five times at close range. As a result, Ren died from internal bleeding from rubber bullets.
The court acquitted the policeman, believing that he acted correctly and there was nothing criminal in his actions.
