Zakharchenko died a month ago.

Before the occupation of Donetsk, Zakharchenko led the local branch of the Kharkov fighting club "Oplot". After the militants seized Donetsk in the spring of 2014, Zakharchenko was appointed “military commander” and later “deputy minister of internal affairs of the DPR”. After the illegal elections in November 2014, Zakharchenko was allegedly elected “head of the DPR” and has since held this position.

The United States and the European Union included it in the sanctions lists in 2014, after a Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 was shot down over the territory of the “DPR”. At the beginning of 2015, Ukraine put Zakharchenko on the wanted list under the article “Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization.”
