Ukrainian organizations in America staged 27 – 28 of September two-day protests against the visit of the Russian president to New York.

A number of Ukrainian organizations in America, among them the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, the Council of American-European Solidarity, the Union of Ukrainian Organizations of America in New York, joined forces to hold a two-day protest against the appearance of Russian President Vladimir Putin in New York at a meeting of the UN General Assembly to be held today, 28 September.

Putin is also expected to meet with United States President Barack Obama. They will hold a one-on-one-in-two meeting in two years, where they will discuss issues of Ukrainian-Russian relations and Russian support for Syria.

Demonstrations began early on the morning of last Sunday, September 27, in Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza Park, not far from the entrance to the UN headquarters building. Then the protesters marched from the square to the building of the Russian UN mission and stayed there until evening. On Monday morning, the protests resumed.

“The aggression that the Russian Federation is applying to Ukraine, trying to reshape the map of Europe by force, is an open challenge to the fundamental principles of international law and democratic values ​​in Europe and beyond,” the organizers of the protests said. "All nations that have experienced the enslavement of the Russian empire and Soviet expansion, in the light of today's events, are again threatened."

Protesters demanded the release of political prisoners, to restore the Ukrainian border, to bring to justice the perpetrators of the death of the Malaysian "Boeing" and put an end to "Putin's military expansion."
