It seems that the term was postponed for at least another two years. And all because of the unusual details that are approved in the project.

The design of the new Apple campus was developed by British architect Norman Foster at the request of Steve Jobs. The founder of Apple asked the architect not to treat him as a customer, but to perceive him as a member of the design team.

In 2014, Foster said that they did not initially plan to build a building in the shape of a ring; however, inspired by the London squares and the Stanford University campus, the architects gradually came to this idea.

Headquarters doorways do not have thresholds

Representatives of the company demanded that the doorways had no thresholds. At the same time, contractors tried to dissuade Apple: “We tried to abandon this idea, as it requires additional time and money. In addition, no one has ever done such work. ”

Apple explained the need to get rid of the thresholds by the fact that employees will have to change a step while walking and this can distract them from work.

Apple designers controlled all the details of construction

Apple employees designed all the signs on the new campus — including fire signs. At the same time, the Californian fire brigade demanded that the signs be clearly visible in all situations.

Journalists cite the words of the representative of the fire department of Santa Clara County, Dirk Mattern: "I have never spent so much time on signposts." He claims that around 15, he met with Apple representatives about the design of fire tablets.

Door handles agreed on a year and a half

Journalists talk about another example of Apple's reverent attitude to detail. In 2015, the company asked contractors to make pens for conference rooms and cabinets. A few months later, they presented a ready-made pen to the Apple manager. However, a representative of the IT giant said that he felt roughness on the surface of the handle.

Contractors had to recheck everything, but no deviations could be found even at the nanometer level. However, Apple insisted that the pens be redone. Representatives of the company worked on the design of door handles for at least another year and a half.

The building uses the world's largest curved glass.

Curved glass will cover both the exterior and interior of buildings. In total, more than 3 thousand sheets of curved glass are used on campus. Apple ordered glass from Germany. “This is the largest glass that has ever been made,” Jonathan Ive told CBS.

Representatives of the construction company told Reuters that the company demanded to place all the ventilation grilles and pipes in such a way that their reflections in the windows and other glass surfaces could not be seen. Contractors were also forced to follow the 30-page instructions for using different types of wood in the interior.

The elevators use buttons from the iPhone

Reuters writes that buttons similar to those installed in the iPhone are used in campus elevators. Probably, we are talking about the buttons that were installed in the company's smartphones before the 7 model - in the latest versions of the iPhone, there is no physical button “Home”.

According to Reuters sources, even the outlines of the toilet bowls in the new campus resemble the smooth housings of the company's devices.

The campus will be able to work without air conditioning almost all year round.

Apple Campus 2 is designed in such a way as not to use air conditioning and heating systems almost all year round - 273 day in a year. It is assumed that natural air circulation will occur in the building.
