In the subway in New York will stand cars

The MTA will solve the problem of overloading trains at rush hours by removing seats and creating several standing cars.

The head of the department, John Lotavo, on Tuesday, 25 July, told a press conference about how management plans to solve the problems of the metropolitan metro.

Among the 30 points, Lotavo singled out one - an increase in the number of passengers due to the creation of several standing cars in each train.

Innovation will be introduced on lines L and shuttle flights between Grand Central и Times Square The capacity of each car is expected to increase by 25 passengers.

In order for passengers not to be confused "standing" cars with "sedentary", they will be repainted in a different color, as well as put a distinctive marking that will allow passengers to determine what they have to stand.

"We will try to make every effort so that passengers do not stay on the station platforms, but can get to their destination," said Lothavo.

It's worth noting that New York is not the first city to introduce standing cars. A similar initiative was introduced in Boston a year ago and had a positive impact on the operation of the metro in the city.

Lotavo did not inform the exact date of the appearance of "standing" cars, but added that all items must be implemented within a year.

Meanwhile, opponents of this initiative say that this method is only suitable for short trips. After all, if passengers have to travel from Brooklyn to the Bronx in a “standing” car, they are unlikely to appreciate the improvement.
