In Los Angeles, food vendors are enjoying customer orders: the city is taking action

Los Angeles authorities want to stop couriers involved in food delivery from eating in their bags while ordering. To this end, the authorities intend to ensure that packages in which food, drinks and prepared meals are delivered to recipients are securely sealed.

Catherine Barger, Los Angeles County District Leader, proposed strict sanitary standards for food delivery, including the sealing of packages during take-out orders, which would prevent couriers from getting orders, eating and drinking what the customer should receive intact, writes New York Post.

The proposal came after people across the country began to massively publish messages on social networks about how delivery service employees willingly share a meal with a client without the knowledge of the latter.

One video posted online showed a delivery man taking a sip of a milkshake before ringing the doorbell in Stockton, California, where he delivered the order.

In another case, a resident of Yorktown, Pennsylvania, complained that two of the six ribs in his order were eaten.

The proposed changes would result in “stronger, more efficient sealing of delivery bags and greater confidence in food delivery services,” Barger spokesman Tony Bell told The Post. The idea is to "ensure packages are secure and sealed before they are handed over to the courier."

The California Restaurant Association said it supported the measure.
