Kyrgyzstan proposes to cancel the official status of the Russian language
In Kyrgyzstan, a number of scientists propose to cancel the official status of the Russian language.
According to the chairman of the National Commission for the Development of the Kyrgyz Language, Egemberdi Ermatov, currently a number of scientists raise the question of the need to make changes in parts of the language policy, even though the country now has a moratorium on constitutional changes before 2020.
Ermatov said that this was discussed at a scientific and practical conference on the development of the state language, which was held in Bishkek on March 11-12. “Then some scientists proposed eliminating the status of Russian as official. This norm remains only in our country,” he noted.
Ermatov added that he welcomes such proposals. In his opinion, the state language should be developed in Kyrgyzstan.
