In which states is hazing at universities a criminal offense? MAP

Universities and colleges across the country are trying to fight hazing on campuses, some states have even imposed responsibility for the humiliation or cruelty of undergraduates towards first-year students. Such laws have 44 of the US state, in 10 of them hazing on campus can lead to criminal prosecution, writes NBC News.

The map shows how this phenomenon is punished in every state.

There are no laws establishing responsibility for dedovshchina in educational institutions, in Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii.

Arizona and Tennessee have a definition of dedovshchina in schools, but the application of punishment for it is assigned to educational institutions, they also have to develop forms of punishment on their own.

In some states, the notion of bullying is introduced, it is also said that it is unacceptable in universities and colleges, but there is no specific responsibility for this. Such states include Oregon, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Ohio, Kentucky, South Carolina, Maine and Connecticut.

In terms of states, hazing at a university may entail administrative responsibility. Among them: Washington, Idaho, Nevada, North Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rod Island, Massachusetts, Maryland and Delaware.

States where school hazing can be criminally liable: California, Utah, Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, West Virginia, Florida, New Jersey.
