In Arizona, a couple kept locked up four adopted children without food and water

In Arizona, a couple were accused of keeping their four children locked up for several hours without access to food, water, and toilet.

Benito, 69-year-old, and Carol Gutierrez, 64-year-old, were charged with child abuse at three points, after which they were arrested, Daily Mail.

They were arrested three days after one of the children fled through the bedroom window and ran to the nearest store for help.

The boy asked the store employee to use the phone, but he decided to call 911, referring to the age and condition of the child.

When the police arrived at the family home North Flowing Wells Road, they found that four children between the ages of six and twelve are kept in terrible conditions.

“The children were in separate bedrooms that were locked from the outside,” the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. “They did not have access to food, water or a bathroom for up to 12 hours at a time.”

In one of the bedrooms, the officers found a bucket, which the children usually used as a toilet.

The children were taken away from home, but it is still unclear who can take care of them.

This case resembles the Turpin family from California. One of the 13 children from a pair ran away out of the house and warned the police that she and her brothers and sisters were being held in house captivity. When the police arrived at the family home, they found that the couple kept many of the children chained to their beds and that all but the youngest suffered from malnutrition. The age of the Turpin family children ranged from two to 29 years.
