Pharmaceutical company Allergan plans to raise prices by almost 10% on more than 20 of its products, writes Fox Business.
In some cases, the rise in prices is relatively modest, but some prices will rise very strongly. Among the drugs, the cost of which will increase markedly, there are some generics (cheap alternative drugs for more expensive brand-name medicines). The increase in the price of many drugs exceeds inflation.
January 1 more than three dozen drug manufacturers raised the prices of hundreds of drugs in the United States. This is evidenced by data analysis company Rx Savings Solutions, which sells software that helps employers and insurers to choose the cheapest medicine.
On average, according to the analysis, prices increased by 6,3%. Allergan confirmed the price increases for its products outlined in the analysis, saying it raised prices on 51 drugs: 27 drugs increased by about 9,5% and another 24 increased by about 4,9%.
The price hike covered more than half of the drugs sold by the company in the United States, from Namenda from Alzheimer's disease to Restasis for dry eyes.
GlaxoSmithKline confirmed that it raised prices for 36 drugs, although the increase in all prices was within 3%.
