Tweet Taylor Swift made Apple change its rules
Apple has revised its policy of paying musicians for listening to their songs in the Apple Music service. The company will pay money for listening to songs during the three-month period, which will remain free for users.
“We have been following the discussion over the past week. We want artists to get paid for their music, and when we hear their complaints, we take them into account. Taylor [Swift's] tweet expressed a consensus on this issue, and we decided to change [the rules],” said Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Solutions and Services Eddie Cue.
He did not specify how much musicians will receive during this period. After the service starts to work on a paid subscription, the company will transfer about 70% of the proceeds to the musicians.
Earlier, singer Taylor Swift said that her album “1989” will not be available on the new Apple Music service. “Three months is too long to work for nothing, and it’s unfair,” says the performer. Apple Music offers 3 months of free use of the service for those who subscribe to its services.
