Tourists in Spain tortured a dolphin to death for the sake of selfie

The dolphin calf died after it was surrounded by tourists who decided to take a selfie with him on a beach in southern Spain.

The kid lagged behind his mother and was stuck in shallow water off the coast of Mojacar in Andalusia.

Noticing the dolphin, the tourists began to touch and photograph the mammal, instead of running for help.

Equinac, a local organization for the protection of wildlife, reported that "selfishness" caused "suffering and stress" in a baby dolphin.

Marine rescue crews appeared on the beach somewhere in the 15 minutes after the dolphin was first seen, but by then the cub had already died.

The dolphin was very small in order to feed independently without mother's milk. In addition, the desire of people to touch and take a picture with him accelerated his cardio-respiratory failure. This was the cause of death, reported Equinac in his statement on Facebook.

Some photos show how people closed the respiratory opening of the baby, thereby reducing his chances of survival.

This is not the first case of the death of a dolphin at the hands of man. Last year, tourists in Argentina got a dolphin from the ocean to touch it. Soon after, the dolphin died.
