Trump: 'The US and the EU have agreed on the pursuit of zero customs tariffs'
US President Donald Trump said that he and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker agreed on new negotiations on the possibility of eliminating trade barriers between the US and the European Union.
Calling this a “new phase” in US and European relations in the area of trade and other issues, Trump noted that both sides will work on the deal, seeking “zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers and zero subsidies for non-automotive industrial goods,” writes USA Today.
Neither Trump nor Juncker did not provide details about what exactly they reached an agreement, but the head of the United States noted that the Europeans agreed to buy more soybeans.
“We will also work to reduce barriers and expand trade and services, in particular in the field of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical products, and soybeans. Soybeans are a big deal,” Trump said.
Despite the lack of details, the general rhetoric of the partners towards each other softened.

On Tuesday, Trump announced 12 billion dollars in subsidies for farmers who may have suffered because of the trade wars with China and the EU.
Starting new trade negotiations with the European Union, Trump said: "We want to further strengthen our trade relations for the benefit of all American and European citizens."
The US president, who had previously threatened tariffs on European cars, stressed that he would withhold further tariffs while negotiations are underway, he added that the US is ready to discuss the current rates for aluminum and steel.
According to him, Juncker also said that Europe would postpone the introduction of retaliatory tariffs for the period of negotiations.
“While we negotiate, unless one side stops negotiating, we will hold off on further tariffs and review existing steel and aluminum tariffs. It was a good, constructive meeting,” Trump explained.
Negotiations between the US and the EU will continue in Washington on July 26.
